Betty Bruder Claus, 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. Betty was in the wonderful care of Hospice and residing at The Brook at the time of her passing.
Betty was born on July 6, 1930, to Mollie (Schlager) and John Bruder. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Her church and her faith were very important parts of her entire life.
On February 12, 1949, Betty married Marvin Claus and they were married for 63 years until his passing in 2012. In addition to Marvin, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Wallace Bruder, sister-in-law Sally Bruder, one sister Marilyn Heller, and brother-in-law Leroy Heller. She was the last surviving member of the thirteen Claus siblings and spouses, and her two Bruder siblings and spouses.
Betty is survived by her three children David (Jan) Claus of Lansing, Jane (Robert) Macomber of Rogers City, and Lisa (Sue Sullivan) Claus of Ada; four grandchildren Rob (Jennifer) Macomber, Molly (Aaron) Branham, Valerie Claus, and Lynn (Tim) Croze, and five great-grandchildren; nephew Dr. John Bruder, niece Barbara Bruder York, and a great many Claus family nieces and nephews.
One of Betty’s greatest loves was music. This was emphasized in her life as a 65 year old choir member for Peace Lutheran and St. John Lutheran Churches. Betty was also active in the Rogers City Civic League, the Zonta Club, the Rogers City Women’s Bowling Association, St. John Ladies Aid, the Fellowship Club, and the Lutheran Education Association.
Betty was employed for 28 years as a writer and office manager for Presque Isle County Advance and was the author of her popular “Candid Comments” column.
Visitation will be from 11:00 Am until 1:00 PM when a Christian Funeral will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers City on April 25, 2024. Inurnment will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials in Betty’s memory may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or Hospice of Michigan.
