Erwin Joseph Styma II

July 26, 1968 — September 14, 2024

Posen

Erwin Joseph Styma II, a loving husband, a devoted father, successful businessman, and caring community leader, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 14, 2024, in Posen, MI at the age of 56. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but his legacy will continue to inspire.

Born on July 26, 1968, in Rogers City, MI, to Erwin and Yvonne (Zdybel) Styma. He was a 1986 graduate of Posen High School. He later married Carey Wilk on August 28, 1993, at St. Casimir's Catholic Church where he was a lifetime member.

As a young man, he began working with his father, Erwin, Sr., his mother Yvonne, and his brothers William and Randall. Soon afterward he began pursuing his own farming venture with his brother, Randall Styma. Together they formed R&E Farms and helped to assist their parents at Styma Potato Farms to expand and ship potatoes across the Mid-West and Eastern United States.

Erwin was the embodiment of hard work and determination. He was a man who enjoyed reading and keeping up with current events and new business trends, but above all, he was a loving father to his two children, Hailey and Benjamin, and a devoted husband to his wife of 31 years, Carey. Family was the center of his life, and he took great pride in creating quality time with the loves that he loved.

Erwin was a true partner to his brother in the business world, co-founding and growing their successful farming business. His willingness to expand his knowledge and outgoing personality made him a beloved figure in both professional circles and the broader community. He was known not only for his business acumen but also for the genuine care he showed toward his employees, and clients. For Erwin, success was measured not just in numbers, but in the positive impact he made on people’s lives.

A passionate reader, Erwin had a lifelong love for biographies, history, and business leaders. His nightstand was filled with a rotation of books, and he often shared his favorite reads with friends and family. He believed in the power of stories to learn from other’s experiences, and he always made time to discuss ideas, history, and new perspectives with those around him.

Beyond his career and family, Erwin was deeply committed to his community. He actively participated in local charity events, served on a number of boards, and was always willing to offer a helping hand to those in need. His care for others extended far beyond words—Erwin understood the importance of ensuring that people in his community and beyond felt valued and supported.

Erwin’s outgoing nature made others feel valued at any gathering. He believed in the importance of community, and his home and office door was always open to friends, family, and anyone who needed a place to feel welcomed.

Erwin Joseph Styma leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity. He is survived by his wife, Carey their children, Hailey and Benjamin, a brother Randall (Jane) Styma, two sisters, Ann (Jason) Marsa and Mary Styma-Wagner of Shelby Township, MI, his father-in-law, Marvin, Mother-in-law, Gayle and several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
