           Marlin R. Schalk, 93, of Rogers Township passed away Sunday morning February 4, 2024, at The Brook of Rogers City.

            The son of August and Hannah (Bahrke) was born in Royston, on January 13, 1931.  He was a 1949 graduate of Alpena High School.  He entered the United States Army during the Korean War and served from 1951 until 1953.  After returning home he married Janet Bruning on May 1, 1954, at St. John Lutheran Church in Rogers City.  He worked for the Limestone Quarry and retired in 1992.

            Marlin loved fishing at their Lake Nettie Cottage – hunting and playing cards at his hunting camp, with friends and family that would come and visit.  He was a kind, thoughtful, hardworking, selfless man, who could talk for hours, and would do anything for you.

            Surviving are 6 children Cynthia (Ray) Zavada of Fenton, Rick (Sandra) Schalk of Wayne, Candace (Ken) Smith of Florida, Jack Schalk of California, Todd (Jan) Schalk of Louisiana, and Carrie (Jim) Schleben of Rogers City; a sister Deloris (Ken) Longpre; 11 grandchildren Scott, Matt, Mark, Amber, Jami, Jennifer, Jodi, Janae, Tonya, Emily, and Shelby; 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

            He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janet on January 16, 2023, and a grandson Rick Schalk Jr. 

            Arrangements are in the care of Hentkowski Funeral Home a graveside memorial service will take place on Saturday February 10, 2024, 11:30 AM at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent to hentkowskifuneral.com.  

            Memorials are suggested to McLaren Hospice, or Peace Lutheran Church
