Afton lost a great man and friend, Marvin Fred Ormsbee. Who earned his angel wings on May 31, 2023, in Cheboygan Michigan.
Marvin was born on October 5, 1954, in Petoskey, Michigan, son of the late Orion Albertus and Nora Nellie (LaPeer) Ormsbee. Marvin was born with many physical handicap challenges. To which he overcame, he went to Afton, and Inland Lakes Schools. Where he graduated with many of his special handicapped friends and classmates. After school he worked for Ormsbee Implements in Afton, known to Marvin as (Ormsbee Motors). Where he liked working on tractors and lawnmowers, especially with his Uncle Sherman Ormsbee and Cousin Stanley Procknow. Marvin enjoyed tinkering with lawnmowers known to Marvin as “Lawn Tractors” he also enjoyed listening to country music, especially Johnny Cash.
Marvin will be sadly missed by his sisters Mary Durfey, of Cheboygan, Nellie Ormsbee of Afton, Gail Lownsberry of Afton, Bonnie (Jay) Meldrum of Cheboygan, and Katherine (Nicholas) Koss of Afton; stepmother RuthAnn (Vogt) Ormsbee of Gaylord formerly of Afton; half-brother Roy (Nicole) Ormsbee of Gaylord, half-sister Sylvia (Richard) Dunbar Coles of St. Louis, Michigan; several nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; four special cousins like “brothers” to him Melvin “Melvy” Baker, Stanly “Stan” Procknow, Arthur “Art” Wollard, Robin “Rob” Ormsbee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Judy Pavwoski, two brothers Orion A., and Joseph; nephew Norman Pavwoski Sr., and niece Margaret Ormsbee; and both sets of grandparents.
A private graveside burial will take place at Koehler Township Cemetery in Afton, Michigan. There will be a celebration of Marvin's life on September 16, 2023, at Benton Township Hall in Alverno for his family and friends. This celebration will be shared with his sister Nellie. Arrangements are in care of Hentkowski Funeral Home in Rogers City, Michigan.
Memorials are suggested to Marvin's family contributions will be given to Marvin's wishes.
